What are Ritual Oils?
Ritual oils are usually made by blending carrier oils with essential oils, herbs, and other ingredients that are associated with specific purposes. These oils are then charged with energy and intention to enhance their magickal properties. Ritual oils can be used for a variety of purposes, including protection, manifestation, healing and more.
Ways to Use Ritual Oils in Your Practice
- Anointing Candles: One of the easiest ways to use ritual oils is by anointing candles with them. Simply apply a drop or two of the oil to your fingers and rub it onto the candle before lighting it. This will infuse the candle with the energy and intention of the oil, amplifying it’s power.
- Bathing: Adding a few drops of ritual oil to your bathwater can transform your bath into a ritual bath. The warm water of the bath can also help you relax while you focus and connect with your intention.
- Meditation: Applying a drop of ritual oil to your third eye or wrists before meditation can help you focus and connect with your intention. The scent of the oil can also help you relax and enter a meditative state more easily.
- Spellwork: Ritual oils make a perfect pairing with spellwork. Simply add a drop or two of the oil to your spell components or anoint your spell candles with it.
- Energy Clearing: Instead of smoke cleansing, you can use a cleansing ritual oil. Apply the oil to your temples for mental clarity or to your chakras for a full cleanse.
A Few of My Favorite Ways to Use Ritual Oils
Here’s a list of a few of my favorite ways to use certain ritual oils.
- Before doing intuitive tarot readings, I like to place a drop or two of divination oil or an oil that’s made for enhancing psychic abilities onto the palm of my hands.
- For part of my manifestation spells, I like to write whatever my intention is onto a bay leaf. When I’m ready to burn the bay leaf, I will place a drop of manifestation onto it before doing so. As the bay leaf burns, I think about my intention being sent up to the universe to be heard and received.
- When performing spellwork, I use a candleholder to hold my candle. Then, I scatter the herbs that I have selected for this particular working around the candle. Finally, I drop some of the ritual oil onto the herbs, using an oil that corresponds to my desired outcome.
- If I’m looking to increase the vividness of my dreams, receive messages through my dreams or do dream work of any kind - that’s right, you guessed it! A dream ritual oils is my go to for this. I like to rub some onto my temples before going to sleep. I also enjoy using a clarity oil to help when it comes to remembering my dreams.
As you can see, using ritual oils can greatly enhance your spiritual practice. By choosing the right oil, setting your desire and using it in a mindful and intentional way, you can experience a deeper connection to yourself and the divine. Remember to use your ritual oils safely as they can contain potent ingredients. With these tips in mind, incorporating ritual oils into your spiritual practice can be a powerful tool for growth, healing, and transformation.
